Staff employed by retailer Argos in Ireland, who are members of the Mandate Trade Union, have voted to accept a 2.5% pay increase.
Mandate Trade Union members working at Argos voted 98% in favour of the 2.5% pay rise, which will be back dated to 1 July 2019.
The agreed deal also includes a new process for the allocation of additional hours at Argos stores; this will ensure that existing staff members are offered excess hours before new employees are hired. Mandate Trade Union states that this will enable staff to boost their incomes, providing greater certainty over employees’ earnings.
Sarah Byrne, activist based at Argos’ Liffey Valley store, said: “The pay increase is obviously welcome, but probably the most important part of this deal is the clarity it provides in relation to hours.
“We now know the exact process for the allocation of additional hours, and this helps members to improve their income. It also helps the [organisation] in terms of planning too.”
Argos employs more than 1,000 staff in Ireland, operating across 40 stores.
