EXCLUSIVE: Paralympian Marc Woods to discuss leadership at Employee Benefits Live

Marc Woods

EXCLUSIVE: Paralympic gold medalist, BBC commentator and author Marc Woods (pictured) will discuss how employers can create environments that allow employees to understand they have a role to play in organisational success at Employee Benefits Live 2018.

The keynote address, titled ‘Unleashing your inner HR superstar’, will conclude the two-day event’s conference programme on Tuesday 3 October 2018.

In the session, Woods will use his experience as a Paralympic swimmer to offer relevant and practical lessons around leadership, relevant to professionals managing themselves and their workloads, managing small teams or leading large teams.

Woods will particularly focus on self-reflection, and how business leaders can define and agree on what success looks like for their organisation. He will also highlight how employers can create environments and workplaces that demonstrate to employees that they have a role to play in impacting business success. Woods will also discuss diversity as part of the broader workplace picture.

Woods said: “I’d like [delegates] to leave thinking that [they] don’t make any change unless [they] are delivering as a leader [themselves]. Why should somebody follow [them] if [they] don’t deliver what [they are] meant to be doing? I would like them to leave thinking about [whether they have] defined what success looks like and got agreement on that. And I would like them to leave thinking that [they should] judge people by what they can do, not what they can’t do.

“It doesn’t matter whether [employers] make widgets or sell computer software; the challenges are all around the people that work within the organisation. [It] is about the broader picture and regardless of what [employers] do as an organisation, trying to help people understand they can have an impact on success.”

Employee Benefits Live 2018 will take place on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 October 2018 at ExCeL London.
