Nottingham City Council seeks health motivators

Nottingham City Council is inviting employees to become health motivators to help communicate its health and wellbeing strategy more effectively to its 13,500 staff.

The council aims to recruit around 100 staff who have an interest in health and wellbeing or who consider themselves to be a natural motivator, to run monthly themed events and organise wellbeing roadshows during working hours.

Tracy Selsby, employee wellbeing manager, said: “We can steer it, but I really think people will respond better to what their colleagues are saying.”

The health motivators will devote between one and four hours a month to the scheme. Based on the average salary at the council, the cost would equate to £378 per volunteer per year.

“There is a small cost we can absorb, but we need to be able to provide tangible business results, such as better retention and lower sickness absence,” said Selsby.
