EXCLUSIVE: RWE Npower sets new charity target

RWE Npower is encouraging its staff to pull together to raise an additional £100,000 this year for its nominated charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, which is celebrating its centenary year.

In October, the energy firm’s 12,000 employees will be given time off to collect money for charity at Tesco and Morrisons stores, taking it in turns to complete two-hour collection slots at their local store. Staff can also pledge to take part in, or arrange, fundraising events such as the London Marathon or a coffee morning, with their employer matching any money raised. The pledges are categorised as gold, silver or bronze, based on the nature of the challenges and their fundraising potential.

Ruth Worton, charity manager at RWE Npower, said: “Our employees have demonstrated a strong commitment to Macmillan through their fundraising activities and the partnership generates a sense of pride.

“This is supported by feedback from workshops, which demonstrates a positive link between the Macmillan partnership and our employees’ sense of pride in the organisation.

“In our 2009 employee survey, 70% of all employees said they believe RWE Npower is socially responsible in the community.”
