Rachel Mooney has become the new chief people officer at digital bank Monzo, which employs 1,500 staff, as of 1 September (Wednesday).
Mooney joins Monzo from Snow Software where, as chief people officer, she helped build and develop the technology business’ organisational and culture strategy. Prior to this, Mooney spent eight years at Vodafone as the human resources director of group corporate functions and shared services.
She also brings to the role her experience of working at Google, where she held the post of EMEA head of organisational culture, before leaving in May 2018 to take up her post at Vodafone. Mooney was part of the founding team of Google’s Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters, helping to establish its HR capabilities including hiring the leadership team, developing the operating environment and fostering a culture of innovation.

Tummalapalli Sai Anil, chief executive of Monzo, explained that the bank’s staff are considered central to the organisation’s strategy.

According to Mooney, she was inspired by Monzo’s “real sense of purpose and mission”, which she believes is “revolutionary” in the sector.
“In the lead up to joining, I was struck by how each and every individual I met wanted to really understand my values and how I would add to the Monzo culture of positive psychology, delivery and customer focus. I can’t wait to get stuck in,” she said.
