Employee benefits provider Unum UK has launched an electric vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice scheme for its 800-plus permanent employees, to coincide with Earth Day (22 April).
The initiative, backed by the Octopus Electric Dreams Car Scheme, allows staff to choose from a wide range of EV models with no up-front payment on a 24-, 36- or 48-month lease period. They will have a yearly mileage allowance up to 30,000 miles and access to support from a team of EV experts to choose the right car, and pair them with the right charger and energy tariff.
Unum said that making EV ownership more accessible to its UK staff could dramatically reduce their carbon footprints, with the added benefits of switching to an electric car, namely low running costs, free parking in some car parks and no congestion charge.
According to the provider, this was the latest move in ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact and become a more responsible and sustainable business. It has also pledged to support the global effort to keep the temperature increase below 1.5°C this century as part of its commitment to create a more sustainable future.
In addition, Unum has also increased its Cycle2Work limit through Evans Cycles. Employees can spend the allowance on a new bike, clothing and equipment, as well as making savings on tax and national insurance.
