Workday offers employees one-time coronavirus payment

Financial management organisation Workday is offering several employee benefits to support staff through the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, one of which is a payment worth two weeks’ pay.

Announced yesterday (16 March 2020), the organisation is giving employees the one-time payment to help support them through any financial difficulties caused by Coronavirus. This will be paid to employees on 30 April 2020, and is expected to add $80 million (£61.3 million) to the business’ first-quarter and full-year fiscal expenses.

Workday is also setting up a relief fund to help employees who need additional support, as well as expanding its back-up childcare benefit and sick pay policy. Staff will be able to use up to 15 days of paid for back-up childcare, where previously they were entitled to 10. Additionally, the organisation has extended home working for employees, through to 17 April 2020. The working from home policy was initially implemented on March 11 2020.

The organisation has also arranged for staff to have one year of access to Headspace, an app offering meditation, as well as guidance on subjects such as stress, focus and sleep.

In a blog post announcing these changes, a spokesperson from Workday said: “We want to support and protect [employees] during this challenging time so they can take good care of themselves, their loved ones, our customers, and communities.

“We feel that by taking care of our employees, we are in turn helping take care of our customers, who are relying on us during this difficult period. These are unprecedented times and we feel it’s important that we do what we can to protect and support our workforce and community.”
